While there are enormous investment in infrastructure, throughout Asia at large, the global construction industry is lagging in embracing new digital technology that could yield significant benefits to both project delivery and asset performance. Keynote Speaker Greg Bentley will share his perspective on the convergence of new technologies and best practices, as illustrated through the projects in Singapore and around the world. This will be followed by a sharing on the success stories in infrastructure lifecycle.
Launch of the Accreditation for Project Managers (APM). We hope to propel Project Management Practice in the Building and Construction Industry in Singapore to a higher standard of expertise and proficiency to meet increasing demands of value enhancement and sustainability in project delivery with all its complexities and challenges. This inauguration has been under moot for a while and a culmination of many months of consultation with recognised Project Management practitioners and learned bodies in designing the scheme.The Guest-of-Honour is Mayor NWCDC, Dr Teo Ho Pin, who has honoured us to officially launch the APM. Do join us for this historic and auspicious event and be part of the fraternity of Project Managers seeking accreditation.We have assembled a panel of distinguished speakers from industry to highlight the Project Management profession from the perspectives of the private, the public, and the community sectors in Singapore. The Why and the How to together with the procedure for accreditation will be elucidated. The details are indicated in the form attached herewith.

Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam) are engineered wood systems which have been identified as innovative products that can raise construction productivity. Such systems offer greater design flexibility, rapid installation, and waste and weight reduction as seen in many construction projects overseas. In the local scene, the industry has become more aware of the benefits of such technology, with a number of CLT/Glulam projects in the pipeline. In order to gain real traction for its adoption, the various considerations such as humidity, performance, termite protection, building envelope design and fire safety regulations have to be addressed. This 2-day workshop aims to elevate the knowledge and skill of the participants in the design and construction of CLT and Glulam structures. It will address the various considerations which may have caused reservations in its adoption.

The Good Industry Practices - Timber Doors and Good Industry Practices - Wardrobes & Kitchen Cabinets were developed to share with the industry good work practices adopted by practitioners and contractors who have consistently delivered high quality work.This course complements the guidebook by providing practical tips on how good quality timber doors, wardrobes and kitchen cabinets can be achieved on site.

SS EN 1994 (Eurocode 4) is the new standard for design of composite structures. It covers many forms of composite structural design and provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date set of design guidance currently available. This course aims to provide civil and structural engineers an introduction to the Eurocode provisions for the design of steel-concrete composite building structures. The course will cover primary design issues and design procedures for composite beams and slabs as used in modern building construction. It also covers shear connections, column design and the interaction between Eurocode 4 and other Eurocode parts. Cross references will be made to the other Eurocode parts which are needed to develop design solutions, for example, SS EN 1991 (Eurocode 1 - Actions on structures), SS EN 1992 (Eurocode 2 - Design of concrete structures) and SS EN 1993 (Eurocode 3 - Design of steel structures) and their respective Singapore National Annexes. Practical examples with direct reference to the code clauses will be used to illustrate the application of the code requirements.
The Good Industry Practices - Painting was developed to highlight good painting practices adopted by practitioners and to raise awareness of the different paint systems, the selection criteria and application processes. This course complements the guidebook, by providing practical suggestions on how good quality painting can be achieved on site. Common defects associated with paints, their causes and preventive measures are also covered in this course.

Connections form a very important part of any steel structure and integrity of the structure depends on them. Accurate details and specifications are required for fabrication to ensure trouble-free erection. The workshop will focus on connection design specifications as per the new SS EN 1993 (Eurocode 3): Part 1-8: Design of joints. Results of recent research on steel connections detailing and fabrication will also be introduced. The course will be taught with practical examples of connection designs which are reliable as well as economical.

The built environment sector has seen significant transformation from 2D drafting to 3D modelling in recent years. While the Civil and Structural (C&S) BIM e-submission is gaining traction, structural calculations are still generated in PDF to justify the sizes of load bearing elements. There is disconnect between analytical models used in design and physical models used to document design intent. There is indeed a need to push for the integration of physical and analytical models to maximize the benefits of BIM for structural engineers.
