BCA strongly encourages the use of new and innovative technology for improved productivity. To accelerate adoption of such technology, there is an urgent need to get the industry to be familiarised with some of productive construction methodologies adopted overseas. One such example is the Form Prefab Steel Reinforced Concrete (F-PSRC) column system, developed by SEN Engineering Group in Korea. The F-PSRC column system has been successfully applied in over 50 projects in Korea. Hence, it is essential for the industry to learn more on how F-PSRC column system practices and design is able to shorten our construction period.

Building Services engineering brings a building to life, have a profound impact on different aspects of building performance such as end-user satisfaction, environmental impact, maintenance and utilities cost, as well as business continuity. In the modern built environment, clients require their projects to be delivered on time and within budget. Clients also want assets to be operationally-ready at handover, facilities that perform to suit their required function and buildings with high levels of performance over the long-term. A correctly executed commissioning process for Building Services is crucial to achieving these outcomes. This course will discuss the different Building Services in projects, what the commissioning process is, why it is important and how the commissioning process could be executed at each stage of project delivery. Prefabricated Building Services elements for improved productivity will also be shared.

With effect from 1 October 2010, for Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) Certification, Building and Construction Authority (BCA) will require batching plants to be certified by certification bodies accredited under Singapore Accreditation Councils Accreditation Scheme. This RMC certification will be based on the new Singapore Standards SS EN 206-1 (Concrete Specification, performance, production and conformity) and SS 544 (Concrete Complementary Singapore Standard to SS EN 206-1). This certificate course in concrete technology is jointly organised by the BCA Academy, the Singapore Concrete Institute (SCI) and the American Concrete Institute-Singapore Chapter (ACI-SC) to familiarize technical personnel in the concrete industry with the certification scheme.

The learning points, observations and recommendations from the study trips will be useful as we embark on the next phase of work to encourage our industry to use more GR600 rebars and rebar systems to improve construction productivity. This seminar is organised specifically to share these learning lessons, to discuss the issues confronting our industry and key stakeholders in trying to use GR600 rebars and how we can overcome these issues and move forward together in the same direction.
