Since 1 April 2015, all structural plans submission have to be based on Eurocode (EC) design standards. EC was developed over the last 30 years by experts from the European Union and is considered as one of the worlds most advanced and established building codes. This move is part of BCAs ongoing efforts in raising the standards of structural building design. To prepare engineers for the adoption of EC in the design of reinforced concrete structures, this workshop will approach the design of concrete structures using EC in comparison with BS 8110.The workshop will contain lectures as well as hands-on tutorial sessions to provide participants with practical design experience. This workshop is jointly organised by BCA Academy and Protective Technology Research Centre of Nanyang Technological University.

In recent years, data analytics has gained significant momentum and buy-in from leadership in organisations across sectors and functions. However, many organisations continue to find it challenging to get data analytics off the ground and on the right track due to a combination of technical, cultural and capabilities factors. One of the key factors is the lack of analytics skills among the employees. While organisations may hire specialists to jump start its analytics journey or work in specific analytics projects, the potential of data analytics can only be sustained if the organisation is able to build data analytics capabilities and culture throughout the organisation. This bespoke workshop aims to address such capability gaps in the built environment sector, especially among professionals and managers in non-analyst roles who wish to work with and make sense of data and analysis of their daily work.

Recently construction sites had started using Prefabricated Prefi nished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) in building construction to improve productivity. The components used in PPVC are much heavier and bulky. To lift such components using cranes, the crane operators need to handle the components (loads) more carefully and position them accurately at specifi ed location points mostly with the help of signalmens walkie-talkie communications as the crane operators are unable to see the locations points due to large size of the PPVC components.

Precast concrete technology had been identified as one of the key areas of focus to improve productivity in the construction industry. It has been observed that there is more room for a greater adoption of this technology in Singapore. Good site management practices and planning of precast concrete construction activities such as on-site/off-site casting of precast members, transportation of the members to site, erection and construction considerations would contribute to more efficient, less labour intensive and faster construction. This would eventually lead to better construction productivity. This workshop provides construction managers with practical knowledge in the planning, execution and control of precast concrete construction. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to plan and manage precast concrete construction site activities effectively.
