As the adoption of Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) is gaining momentum, it is imperative that PPVC projects attain high quality. This workshop will serve as a platform for industry players to share their experience in achieving good quality PPVC projects. Teambuild Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd, the builder for the first PPVC executive condominium The Brownstone will share their success story in achieving high Quality Mark Score. This is followed by sharing on best practices in applying more productive and sustainable building materials for PPVC projects. Moderna Homes Pte Ltd, the first company to be awarded the PPVC Manufacturer Accreditation Scheme will also share their experience in ensuring good quality PPVC module throughout the manufacturing process. Guided tour to selected booths at BuildTech Asia will also be conducted as part of this workshop for participants to have a first-hand experience of the materials and hear directly from the exhibitors.

Various challenges are present in pile foundation works due to the uncertainties and variability of the ground conditions. Once the piles are installed, they are expected to function throughout their lifetime. During the lifetime of the building, the foundation is rarely inspected for its continued structural integrity and stability. Supervision of piling works for building foundation is therefore essential and critical in ensuring the quality of construction works and safety of building structures. This short course imparts to participants the essential knowledge of good construction practices, supervision of piling works, regulatory requirements and testing of pile foundation works.

IES EECETC & SUSS proudly present: "A Quick Introduction to Deep Learning"

Deep Learning is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) stemming from the abstraction of the functioning of brain cells.

The concept of Deep learning is analogous to the way a child learns about new objects/ things, namely through observations and the tweaking of the parameters of neural networks. Presently, the vast and affordable availability of computing power together with the availability of large volumes of data have surfaced earlier dormant neural networks to limelight.

This gentle unveiling of deep learning will introduce to the audience fundamental concepts of neural networks and illustrate the principles of operation of a simple neural network using the Python programming language.

The presentation will introduce the convolutional neural network (CNN) and will illustrate the coding of CNN using the keras framework in Python Programming.

As this Talk is only a basic introduction to deep learning and is suited for anybody who has an interest in deep learning, experience with Python coding is not necessary but useful.

Property and facilities management is a growing industry in Singapore. With the ever-increasing number of residential developments in Singapore, the demand for more professionally trained property and facilities management personnel is growing in tandem. To meet the high expectations of home owners and residents, building management personnel need to be well equipped with the knowledge of the governing laws and related procedures for the management of estates. In addition, it is also important for them to acquire good interpersonal communication and people management skills to manage difficult and demanding clients in a positive way.The course covers the essential procedures and laws related to estate management under the Building Maintenance & Strata Management Act (BMSMA). It also provides an awareness and understanding of the crucial people management skills necessary for building management personnel.

The Internal Audit (QEHS) course (based on requirements on Quality Management System, Environmental Management System and Occupational Health and Safety Management System) aims to equip Internal Auditors with the knowledge and skill required to assess, monitor and measure the performance of an organisations integrated QEHS Management system. As the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 have recently undergone a major review, the course includes the latest updates of the new editions and highlights the necessary revisions to ensure smooth transition from the current version.

While BCA has made significant progress in leading the building industry towards Universal Design (UD) adoption through funding and seminars, the industry is still lacking in their knowledge and application of UD. There is a need to build the industrys capability and capacity in adopting UD so as to create an inclusive and age friendly built environment for all ages. The 4-day programme aims to provide an overview of the various aspects of adopting an inclusive approach to design. The course will adopt a multidisciplinary approach to gain an appreciation of UD through the direct contact with varied user groups in a focused context; the pragmatics of UD supported by an understanding of the theoretical framework; and the ability to source for and apply qualitative & quantitative information regarding the fit between human and the built environment.

Managing people, in general, can be frustrating and demanding on ones time and can result in increased stress levels, especially when we are so consumed in our daily work processes. Very often, project managers, site supervisors, facility managers and building executives are hassled by their site agents, subcontractors, material suppliers and building tenants over all kinds of issues and problems relating to inadequate site facilities, slow work progress, poor building maintenance, high rental fees, etc. Normally, people who lack effective management and interpersonal skills would only exacerbate such situations. Furthermore, the stress of handling difficult people and challenging situations can result in low productivity, low morale and high absenteeism within the team or an organisation. The 2-day experiential workshop aims to teach participants practical solutions to effectively manage people by considering (1) what makes people difficult (2) how we could communicate effectively and manage peoples expectations, and (3) strategies for dealing with difficult people and situations.Through interactive activities, role play and case studies participants learn how to apply the provided tools coupled with their interpersonal skills to deal with all types of work behaviour problems. Towards the end of the workshop, you should be able to develop a personal action plan that helps you manage your team more effectively.
