IES EECETC & SUSS proudly present: "A Quick Introduction to Deep Learning"

Deep Learning is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) stemming from the abstraction of the functioning of brain cells.

The concept of Deep learning is analogous to the way a child learns about new objects/ things, namely through observations and the tweaking of the parameters of neural networks. Presently, the vast and affordable availability of computing power together with the availability of large volumes of data have surfaced earlier dormant neural networks to limelight.

This gentle unveiling of deep learning will introduce to the audience fundamental concepts of neural networks and illustrate the principles of operation of a simple neural network using the Python programming language.

The presentation will introduce the convolutional neural network (CNN) and will illustrate the coding of CNN using the keras framework in Python Programming.

As this Talk is only a basic introduction to deep learning and is suited for anybody who has an interest in deep learning, experience with Python coding is not necessary but useful.

The Internal Audit (QEHS) course (based on requirements on Quality Management System, Environmental Management System and Occupational Health and Safety Management System) aims to equip Internal Auditors with the knowledge and skill required to assess, monitor and measure the performance of an organisations integrated QEHS Management system. As the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 have recently undergone a major review, the course includes the latest updates of the new editions and highlights the necessary revisions to ensure smooth transition from the current version.

Managing people, in general, can be frustrating and demanding on ones time and can result in increased stress levels, especially when we are so consumed in our daily work processes. Very often, project managers, site supervisors, facility managers and building executives are hassled by their site agents, subcontractors, material suppliers and building tenants over all kinds of issues and problems relating to inadequate site facilities, slow work progress, poor building maintenance, high rental fees, etc. Normally, people who lack effective management and interpersonal skills would only exacerbate such situations. Furthermore, the stress of handling difficult people and challenging situations can result in low productivity, low morale and high absenteeism within the team or an organisation. The 2-day experiential workshop aims to teach participants practical solutions to effectively manage people by considering (1) what makes people difficult (2) how we could communicate effectively and manage peoples expectations, and (3) strategies for dealing with difficult people and situations.Through interactive activities, role play and case studies participants learn how to apply the provided tools coupled with their interpersonal skills to deal with all types of work behaviour problems. Towards the end of the workshop, you should be able to develop a personal action plan that helps you manage your team more effectively.

The Buildability legislation, effective since 1 Jan 2001, promotes the use of buildable design and new construction technologies. Under legislation, consultants involved in building projects with Gross Floor Areas (GFA) of 2,000m2 and above must comply with the minimum Buildable Design Scores (B-Score) stipulated in the Code of Practice on Buildability (COP). Since 15 Jul 2011, builders also have to comply with a minimum Constructability Score (C-Score) which encourages the use of construction technologies, mehods and processes to reduce the industrys reliance on foreign workers.Over the years, the buildability framework has been strengthened to require consultants to deliver more buildable designs upstream, and builders to adopt more labour-saving construction methods/technologies downstream. The course thus aims to keep participants up to date on the latest changes to the buildability framework and provides them with an understanding of the principles involved in computing the B-Score and C-Score.
