This Executive Development Programme will address the importance of striking a balance between the sustainability of our physical environment as well as the conservation of our cultural and built heritage. It will provide a balanced understanding of the green agenda that goes beyond the triple bottom line to also address the cultural, spatial and technological issues that beset our built environment. In particular, this course will: demonstrate how the principles of sustainability can be applied in the conservation, restoration and adaptation of historic structures, focus on integrating the conservation of the built heritage into urban and regional planning as a means of enhancing heritage tourism, explore ways in which tested building and conservation techniques still meet emerging standards for sustainability and energy conservation and provide an insight into how indigenous building materials and passive design techniques help in retaining local cultural identity. The 5-day programme comprises lectures, walking tours and a workshop to provide participants with a deep understanding on sustainability issues such as reducing carbon footprint in both micro and macro scales, as well as issues on heritage conservation and restoration. In addition, the lateral lectures in the evenings will provide inspiring insights into the parallel between some other industries, such as haircutting, with the built environment sector.

Abstract: The concept of structural safety, and in particular how structures are designed under extreme loading conditions, has come under increased focus since the collapse of WTC buildings following 9-11 disaster. Since fires played a crucial role in the collapse of WTC buildings, building performance under fire conditions has attracted significant attention in recent years. Further, there is an increased expectation from society-at-large on better performance of buildings under fire conditions. Thus structural engineers are expected to be familiar with the design principles governing fire safety in buildings. This course will provide the essential background for fire design of steel, and composite structures. Both behavior and design aspects related to structural fire design of steel, and composite structures will be covered in this course. The course will introduce design provisions specified in Euro codes for fire design of steel, concrete, and composite structures. For engineers who are not familiar with the Euro-terminology, the course instructors will go through the relevant terms for ambient and high temperature design. Also, examples and case studies will be presented to illustrate the applicability of fire design provisions in practical scenarios. Both Professors have been working in the field of structural fire engineering since 1990s and have extensive experience in the analysis, design and testing of steel, concrete and composite structures under fire conditions.

In this seminar, SPRING will share on the benefits of the integrated assessment and funding support available, and several certified companies will also share on their journey. Key changes in the ISO 9001:2015 and the transition audit requirement will also be presented.

Singapore has embarked on the journey towards becoming the worlds first Smart Nation, seeking to support better living and stronger communities, and create more opportunities. To co-create this future of Singapore, the built environment sector could play a crucial role in turning Singapore into a Smart City.Similar to Singapore, Denmark has an ambitious goal for the country: to be the first carbon-neutral country in the world by 2050. Smart City projects have been carried out in many Danish towns and cities, and Denmark has been identified to have the opportunity to become a world leader in smart cities. In the European Smart Cities ranking, three Danish cities, namely Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense, are ranked within the top 10 smartest cities.To leapfrog Singapores smart city development, the DTU-BCA Executive Development Programme 2016 on Smart and Sustainable Cities will allow the delegates to be immersed in the Danish cities and the smart solutions implemented in the living labs, so as to have a deeper understanding on the various aspects of a Smart City, such as smart energy, smart building and smart technology.The 5-day programme comprises lectures conducted by the Academia from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), as well as visits to remarkable sites such as the UN City Complex, Energinet, Danish Industry and Carlsberg Byen in Copenhagen and Fyn.

The coordinating of interior decoration projects is a professional role that requires specific skills.An interior finishing coordinator needs to have knowledge of various interior finishes, fixtures and fittings, M&E services, construction methods and related building regulations. The ability to comprehend architectural, structural and M&E drawings and appreciate the design intent of the interior designer is just as important. Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with other members of the project team to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of the project are added value to the employer.This course will develop participants coordination skills in interior finishing and enhance their confidence to undertake new roles. It allows graduates to move to higher supervisory and management roles in this specialised area of work. It also opens up opportunities for a career switch to be coordinators for interior design and decoration firms.

This seminar aims to raise the safety standards of the industry and share good practices as well as shortcomings observed in both the design and construction of building works, in particular in changing the way we build through the use of game-changing technologies.
