The building industry witnesses significant changes in Building Codes in recent years. Major reviews were conducted and consequential amendments were made in the Approved Document and Code on Accessibility in the Built Environment. Practitioners have to understand these changes and ensure that the development fulfill the requirements. It is therefore important for the stakeholders of the building industry to aware on the new and upcoming changes to the regulations.

Seminar on Singapore Standard for Specification for Steel for the Reinforcement of Concrete - Weldable, Reinforcing Steel Bar, Coil and Decoiled Product (SS 560 : 2016)

This short course, which is based on Singapore Standard SS EN 1993-1-8:2010, SS EN 1993-1-9:2010 and SS EN 1993-1-10:2010, Eurocode 3: Design of Steel Structures Part 1-8: Joints, Part 1-9: Fatigue and Part 1-10: Material toughness and through-thickness properties, respectively, is to provide participants the relevant technical background with worked examples to understand better the design resistance, fatigue and fracture assessment of circular and rectangular hollow section tubular joints under various load combinations. The strength integrity assessment of the cracked joints based on fracture mechanics approach is also presented. It covers the procedures of assessing the fracture and residual strength of circular hollow section (CHS) and rectangular hollow section (RHS) joints containing cracks using standards not covered in SS EN 1993-1-10:2010. The Universal Design Conference is an anchor event for the Singapore Universal Design Week 2016. Themed Universal Design in Public Places, the 1-Day conference aims to accelerate the adoption of UD concepts in the creation of inclusive and user-friendly public places. This requires considerations made on the needs of everyone, including the elderly, expectant mothers, parents with young children, families, and persons with disabilities.A UD Exhibition themed A Journey Through our Inclusive Public Places, will be co-located at the conference. Through life-sized graphics and product displays, the exhibition will feature the inclusive design principles from the new UD Guide for Public Places.

Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction or PPVC has been touted as the way to go for the construction industry amidst tighter control on foreign labour. While these technologies can reduce the dependence on labour, the take-up among the local industry stakeholders has not been high. In this seminar, 5 speakers from the public and private sectors who are at the forefront of championing the adoption of PPVC, share their views and perspectives on leveraging these game-changing technologies in helping their organisations achieve greater productivity.

Partial or total collapse of temporary structures such as formwork and falsework is often the cause of such accidents. Some of these accidents had resulted in loss of lives and injuries to many workers. Furthermore, clearing the resulting wreckage was very time-consuming and expensive. It is therefore important for site personnel to acquire the knowledge on the safety requirements of such temporary structures. One of the main causes of the accidents is due to inadequacy of supervision. Such accidents could be prevented if the supervisors had been equipped with knowledge on the proper inspection of the formwork and falsework before, during and after concreting. BCA Academy conducts the Formwork Safety Course For Supervisors to impart fundamental concepts with emphasis on formwork and falsework safety to participants.

Explosive powered tools are commonly used in construction and renovation work to drive fasteners such as studs & pins into work surfaces such as walls & floors. The Ministry Of Manpower (MOM) requires all explosive powered tools operators to be trained. They must successfully complete an appropriate explosive powered tools operator training programme.This explosive powered tools operator course is designed to prepare explosive powered tools operators to meet the MOM's requirement. Construction and renovation workers should attend this course.
