Singapore has designated 2018 as the Year of Climate Action. In recognition of this important initiative, the seminar will address the challenges and technological solutions related to the sustainable functioning of cooling towers in buildings. These technologies seek to minimise the use of water, energy, and chemicals (and by extension, toxicity levels), while still eliminating microbial contamination in order to ensure high indoor air quality.

A strategic decision normally entails trade-off in multiple factors, e.g. human resource, equipment, cost, and risk. In a rapidly changing environment, decisions have to be made with incomplete and imperfect information. Knowledge extracted from data, either small or big, using artificial intelligence and related methodologies provides useful insights such that informed decisions could be made in complex and dynamic environments.In this talk, the speaker will share his experience in designing and developing computational intelligence models, primarily neural, fuzzy, and evolutionary algorithms for data analytics anddecision support. He will also elucidate the capability of using intelligent learning models for extracting useful information and knowledge from small to big data to support human decisionmaking processes. Real-world case studies in healthcare and manufacturing domains will be demonstrated.

IntroductionThe foundation of our healthcare system is primary healthcare services which will continue to increase as we face an increasing prevalence of chronic diseases in tandem with an ageing population, changing lifestyles and longer life expectancies. As such, polyclinics which are defined as one-stop healthcare centres, independent of a hospital, will provide subsided primary care which includes primary medical treatment and examination, preventive healthcare and health education for patients of different age groups.By 2030, one in four Singaporeans is aged 65 or above. The Government will continue to build capacity, including that of nursing homes beds to be sited within senior-friendly neighbourhoods and to locate aged care residential and support facilities within the community to support new care models that will enable the seniors to receive better care, closer to their homes and familiar surroundings.The new Technical Reference (TR 65) for Facility Design for Polyclinics and (TR 66) for Facility Design for Nursing Homes are part of MOH Holdings standardisation plans for healthcare infrastructure.These two Technical References specify the general guidelines for the planning and design of polyclinics and nursing homes in Singapore. This one-day course covers the detailed design of reinforced concrete structural elements to Eurocode 2 (EC2). The emphasis is on buildings that are constructed insitu, braced by structural walls and are non-sway.

The objective of this course is to identify and waken players of the industry to as many as practically possible risks occurring in the course of comprehensive delivery of a construction project and suggest ways to avoid, mitigate, eliminate or overcome such risks. One-time only, strictly no re-runs. Register early to avoid disappointment.

To build up the expertise of industry professionals in ABC Waters design features, the ABC Waters Professional Programme was launched in Sep 2011. Comprising four core modules and four elective modules, the programme covers the concept, design, implementation and maintenance of ABC Waters design features. Participants who complete all four core modules plus any two elective modules, and meet the registration criteria of IES/SIA/SILA, would be eligible to be registered as an ABC Waters Professional.

This seminar is part of a series of seminars by the Building andConstruction Standards Committee to keep the local industry informed of changes and new standards. The Eurocodes have been implemented in Singapore since April 2015. It has been a learning journey for the local industry.The European standard, EN 1090 (Execution of steel structures andaluminium structures) is the relevant standard for fabrication andinstallation of structural steelwork. This European standard allows the use of higher steel grades not covered in the old BS codes and is usedextensively in Europe and other parts of the world (e.g. China) forcertification of the fabricators.The Singapore version of this standard, SS EN 1090 which is made up of 2 parts has been adopted in Singapore to allow the use of alternative structural steel materials for building works. Certification of fabricators to SS EN 1090 would elevate their competency and therefore, align our local steelwork practice with that required by the Eurocodes.

Safety in construction sites is of paramount importance not only to protect oneself but also to ensure safety for fellow site personnel on site. This programme is for stakeholders in construction projects (Resident Engineers, Resident Technical officers, Site Supervisors etc) and it explains the laws on safety for construction site and discusses construction safety for the various site operations commonly executed in a construction project.Participants will know how the current laws related to safety in Singapore protect them and their fellow site personnel. They will be able to supervise and/or carry out daily site operations with a focus on safety. They are able to identify hazards related to various site activities and take steps to control risks arising from such hazards.

The objective of this course is to present an overview of the indoor air quality health hazards that may be encountered by personnel on a construction site environment, addressing questions such as: What are some indoor air contaminants and where do they come from? How do these contaminants get into the body, and what are the health effects they can cause? Finally, what are some measures and good work practices that can be taken to address these indoor air quality concerns?
